Center handles 3,853 mosquito control requests
Abu Dhabi, UAE – As part of its ongoing efforts to protect public health in Abu Dhabi, the Public Health Pest Control Projects Division at Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center (Tadweer) executed an intensive program to control mosquitoes and other public health pests across the emirate.
Running from January to August 2018, the drive resulted in the elimination of 2,106,401 mosquito breeding sites in Abu Dhabi, including 1,025,010 farm sites with an infection rate of 0.51 percent and 1,081,391 sites in public areas with an infection rate of 1.3 percent. The division also received 3,853 mosquito control requests from across the emirate.
Targeting different segments of society, Tadweer also conducted a series of awareness workshops on mosquito control, and distributed leaflets containing useful information on the dangers of mosquito proliferation and methods of prevention.
Engineer Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Pest Control Projects Director at Tadweer, said: “The mosquito control program aligns with our priority to apply the highest pest control standards in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. In addition to educating the public on mosquito control, the drive aimed to protect public health and prevent diseases.”
He added: “Within the framework of its integrated pest management system, the Public Health Pest Control Projects Division at Tadweer monitors mosquito breeding sites across the emirate through regular inspections and field surveys. After identifying the pest types and analyzing relevant data collected through such surveys, we spray the infected areas using environmentally safe pest control products.”
As part of its mandate, Tadweer takes a series of preventive measures to control mosquitoes. To achieve this objective, the center has deployed a fleet of 91 vehicles fitted out with state-of-the-art control systems, 1,519 equipment units and 380 workers.
