Launched with a new look and feel, the Kafu awareness campaign aims to promote volunteer work in Qatar

Doha, Qatar: Aiming to foster a culture of volunteer work in Qatar, the Social Development Center (SDC) has once again launched its Kafu awareness campaign, an annual initiative targeted at the youth of the country, encouraging them to participate in voluntary activities on a regular basis.

First launched in 1999, Kafu has been revamped by SDC to reflect a more personal and interactive approach.

The life-size building wraps across the city feature Qatari volunteers wrapping up their day of volunteering, and posing the question, "What did you do today?", prompting readers to reflect on their own day and what they have done to give back to their community.

"The Arabic word, "kafu", means "well done". The Kafu awareness campaign is meant to encourage individuals and organizations to engage in volunteer activity and make valuable contributions to society. We want everyone to enjoy such work and take pride in doing something they do not necessarily get monetary compensation for," said Manar Al Dossari, Marketing & Public Relations Manager.

"With Kafu, SDC hopes to convey the message that volunteering is more than a commitment to community - it is a commitment to oneself and can easily be integrated into one's lifestyle," she said.

A 3-month-long awareness campaign, Kafu involves a variety of events and activities for individuals to share their experiences and network with fellow volunteers, as well as organizations on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers.

One of the main components of the Kafu awareness campaign is setting a trend of leadership by example. SDC's target audience for the campaign consists of students, researchers and individuals who are able to set examples for their peers when they volunteer their time and expertise to improve society.

"Whether they are students or heads of leading organizations, volunteers lead by example as they demonstrate their ability to contribute to society, while keeping up with their busy schedules. When senior officials of organizations volunteer, they earn themselves a reputation of being a socially aware and ethical group of professionals," said Al Dossari.

"For a rapidly developing country like Qatar, volunteers play a key role in taking the nation to greater heights and creating a better Qatar for themselves and others," she said.

In addition to Kafu, SDC is behind a number of other volunteer initiatives - including the SDC Volunteering Program and SDC Volunteer Awards - through which the renowned non-profit organization intends to reinforce the notion of volunteering to contribute to the overall development of a society, and eventually a nation.
