Snickers 'Street Skillz' tournament comes to Jeddah
Riyadh/Jeddah, 22 November, 2006 - SNICKERS have unlocked the passion of football and enthralled the minds of thousands over the last three weeks by capturing the beautiful game in a cage with the first ever 3-on-3 football event in the region called 'Street Skillz' tournament.
The special cage, designed like a football pitch and conceptualised and prepared by Relay Dubai, was transported from Riyadh to Jeddah for the first and second rounds of the tournament, which will now be used for the final showdown tomorrow at Tahlia Street in Jeddah.
"MasterFoods is all about being seen at the grassroots level with football. The cage football has attracted more than a thousand young footballers across KSA to demonstrate their football skills. This never-been-done before event has created a competitive, urban environment based on sportsmanship and a mutual love for the beautiful game," says Ahmed Saab, GCC Marketing Coordinator, SNICKERS Brand.
Thirty two teams were attracted by the opportunity and participated in what was the region's pioneer caged football event in Riyadh and Jeddah respectively. Only eight teams have made it through the challenging early stages of the tournament to compete in the finals of what is KSA's first street soccer fest.
The eight short-listed teams are Italy, Al Wazeer, Al Harthy and Zeidan from Riyadh, and from Jeddah; Al Zahra, Shabab Al Sharafiya, Milano and King Abdul Aziz University.
SNICKERS 'Street Skillz' tournament is part of a long-term campaign by the chocolate brand to strengthen its affinity with football.
"As part of our integrated marketing campaign, SNICKERS, reached out to its consumers via direct and viral marketing initiatives, which helped to drive registration and attendance at the events. It is great to see the response and the wave of excitement that has been created by the 'Street Skillz' tournament, which in addition to our support for the forthcoming Jeddah Schools Tournament, is a testament to the brand's commitment towards football in the region," concluded Saab.
