Company continues to empower sporting industry in Middle East through its global expertise

Dubai, June 29th, 2004: Samsung Electronics, the official partner for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay, support is turning the truly global Olympic torch relay event into the world's largest celebration of its kind. With this overwhelming success Samsung further continues its worldwide Olympic sponsorship with the International Olympic Committee, as the official wireless communications equipment partner for the Athens 2004 Olympic games.

"Samsung's extensive support of sports is based on the company-wide belief that sports play a unique role in unifying people regardless of age, race or gender. The company believes that sports promote cooperation among individuals, companies and nations. Based on this belief, Samsung became one of the International Olympic committee's Worldwide Partners in 1997 and have extended the partnership through 2008 Beijing. This spirit of sport corresponds with Samsung's corporate philosophy of contributing to humanity worldwide and in the Middle East," said Mr. B.W.Lee, President and CEO, Samsung Middle East and Africa Headquarters.

Celebrating the return of the Games to Athens in a dramatic and inspiring way, the 2004 torch relay has been the longest ever of its kind by running across five continents for the first time, as represented by the famous Olympic rings, and uniting communities worldwide in a global celebration of the Olympic Values of fair play, friendship, practice, exercise and ethos.

There are over 10,000 torchbearers for the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Torch Relay, each playing a part in carrying the flame around the world. Samsung, using its substantial marketing presence to attract people, has selected 1,800 of these torchbearers, who best encompass the qualities of humanity that the Olympic Games represent.

Samsung's support of sport goes far beyond financial patronage. The company contributes to all major events through its sophisticated digital wireless telecommunication technologies, essential in successful management of the modern day sporting event. During the Games, Samsung will provide wireless telecommunications equipment together with technical support in key areas to the 2004 Athens Organizing Committee, keeping officials, media, staff and volunteers in close contact.

"Samsung Electronics will continue to leverage the wealth of its global sporting expertise in the region. Involved throughout the event in every country, the company is helping to build the bridges between nations and celebrate the Olympic spirit in reflection of the symbolism of the flame," Mr. Lee added.

Samsung was the official mobile phone sponsor for the FIFA Youth World Championship 2003, Dubai Dessert Classic 2004 and was the title sponsor of Samsung Dubai Marathon for the last four years, among other sporting events held across the Middle East.
