The Roads & Transport Authority - Nashwan Attaa'ee: The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) continues to attach considerable importance & care for the health of its employees and always seeks to hold health educative lectures covering a wide range of key topics relating to sound nutritional habits, practicing sports on daily basis, and nurturing the culture of movement & activity to make it a lifestyle. Such practices are instrumental for maintaining the physical & mental health; which will undoubtedly result in enhanced individual & communal productivity.
Nabeel Yousef Al Ali, Director of RTA Administrative Services, said: "To turn this attention into substantial activities in response to the directives of H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, the Dep't has recently rolled out an initiative entitled 'Be Healthy' week during which a bunch of female nutritional experts from the Dubai Health Authority were hosted to deliver three lectures. The lectures were attended by scores of RTA male & female employees who showed great attention to lectures along with the accompanying activities as evident from their interaction with the experts and queries raised about sound nutrition, balanced food, and the importance of exerting physical efforts in a way compatible with the practical life of individuals in general and employees in particular, and the importance of designating certain times for taking food, unwinding and sleeping for a better life of all individuals."
Lectures were run for three days from 15 to 17 April. The first lecture on the first day, entitled 'Sound Nutrition Awareness', was delivered by Ms Shima Qayed, Nutrition Expert at the Dubai Health Authority. The lecture covered several aspects including measuring the body weight, mass of body fats, dietary card, fruits & vegetables, healthy dish & food samples, educational booklets, fast foods, and the amount of fats in certain foodstuffs.
The second day's lecture was entitled 'Diabetes Awareness' delivered by Dr Wafaa Ayesh, Director of Clinical Nutrition Department - Dubai Health Authority. The lecture covered several important topics highlighted by measuring blood sugar, Glycemic Index sugar, sugar cubes, food for diabetics and brochures.
The third day's lecture, which was meant exclusively for female employees, was entitled: 'Awareness of osteoporosis, breast cancer and Vitamin D'. The lecture covered several aspects including vitamin D & calcium-rich nutrients, foods impacting the absorption of vitamin D and calcium, and measurement of osteoporosis & breast cancer.
"RTA male & female employees also benefited from the free medical checkups made to identify the optimal weight, healthy diet routines and other matters related to good health. Employees were also engaged in accompanying events including activities held in two health clubs in RTA Head Office where sports exercises can be practiced after the official working hours," said Nabeel.
"Employees also availed the events to know the amount of energy needed by human body every day, ideal body weight for a given height, maximum calories needed by man or women every day, and types of foodstuffs to be taken without causing overweight," he added.
The three experts were delighted for delivering these lectures at the RTA and assisting its employees in adopting the best & healthiest dietary practices in order to lead a better life. Meanwhile, they also commended the huge achievements accomplished by the RTA in Dubai, and its diligent endeavours in delivering best-in-class services to clientele spanning all spectrums of the community.
