Roads & Transport Authority - Manal Khalid: The Internal Audit Dep't, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), has shared with a delegation of the Dubai Municipality the best internal audit practices developed in accordance with the highest international standards.

"The visit reflects the extent of the existing cooperation between the Dubai Government entities and their interactive relations with a view to achieving a single objective i.e. to boost the business conduct to the highest levels; a standing call of the top UAE leadership," said Abdullah Al Jawi, Director of RTA Internal Audit. "The meeting aimed at benchmarking the best practices adopted by RTA Internal Audit Dep't against its counterpart in Dubai Municipality with the aim of improving the tasks and exchanging expertise," he added.

During the gathering, a visual presentation was made casting light on RTA's Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Goals besides highlighting the Vision of Internal Audit Dep't; which is aligned with RTA Vision, encapsulated as: "Working together in a fair & excellent manner to improve and advance the performance", and its Mission of: Delivering distinguished services in the field and committing to fairness & objectivity with the aim of supporting decision makers in achieving the strategic plans and objectives.

During the meeting, Al Jawi referred to the core objectives that have to be in place and continuously developed in order to work in a team spirit, namely: ensuring that the financial, administrative and technical activities and processes are carried out in line with the approved regulations and systems, verifying the optimal use of resources & assets through assessing the ingredients of internal audit, offering support & consultancies and adopting the best internal audit practices. The delegation also reviewed RTA's Audit Charter & its objective; namely setting out the objectives, responsibilities and powers of the Dep't through defining its position in the RTA set up.

The Dubai Municipality delegation also reviewed the Department's Policies & Procedures Manual; which constitutes a unified platform employed by the Dep't to leverage auditors to comply with the best standards in place, and was briefed on the core standards & practices adopted by the Dep't; which are advocated by the Institute of Internal Auditors, and Information Systems Audit and Control Association.

The Director of RTA Internal Audit further stated: "The staff of the Dep't had been dispatched to a host of international institutes in the field of internal audit & monitoring in a bid to realize our objective of keeping pace with the developments and changes taking place in the industry which in turn contribute to the enhancement of our performance levels."

The meeting also shed light on the best technological practices adopted by the Dep't as technological solutions to Internal Audit IT systems in the form of advanced authentication, analysis, and data comparison programs as well as others related to managing the process of following up recommendations made by the Dep't, and another software introduced to facilitate to facilitate the retrieval of key documents of the Dep't.

The visual presentation showed that internal work teams are in place to assist the Dep't in upgrading the processes in their respective fields; which include leadership, excellence, benchmarking, quality, and events teams. It also highlighted the core processes undertaken by the Dep't.

For their part, members of the visiting delegation of Dubai Municipality praised this communication with the RTA; which offers them the potentials of reviewing the job nature of the Internal Audit Dep't and according having exposure to a host of new developments which can ultimately lead to improving and upgrading their business conduct. They also stated that the business entities, however different their names, shared the same prime concern vis-à-vis achievement & development. In conclusion they praised RTA's strenuous efforts to introduce and apply the best specialized scientific programs in various fields and specialties; ranking it among the distinguished Dubai Government offices over the past five years.
