Held under the patronage of the Mayor of Madaba
Amman-Jordan, 1st January 2008: Under the patronage of Mr. Aref Al Rawajih, Mayor of Madaba, the Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) concluded its Road Safety Awareness campaign for Eid Al Adha which lasted for one day under the slogan "No Traffic Accidents During Eid"
RHAS was represented by Ms. Hanan' Ali Al Hour, Traffic Awareness Program Ambassador in the Governorate of Madaba, together with the program's staff, and in collaboration with the Traffic Department in Madaba, and a number of school students.
This campaign - which is one of the regular campaigns the Traffic Awareness Program Ambassadors conduct in various Jordanian governorates - aimed at reinforcing drivers' sense of responsibility on roads and behind the wheels, through giving away flowers and greeting cards for those who violate the traffic rules instead of issuing tickets.
"We are honored to conduct this campaign under the patronage of the Mayor of Madaba. We would also like to express our deep gratitude and appreciation of the support and the cooperation we received from the Governorate of Madaba, the Traffic Department, and the participating schools which recommended energetic and responsible Jordanian students," said by Ms Hanan' Ali Al Hour, Traffic Awareness Program Ambassador in the Governorate of Madaba.
Al Hour also commended the outstanding performance of the participating students, who aged between 4-16 years. Students of Madaba expressed their enthusiasm for being part of this rich experience which enhanced their knowledge and understanding of the importance of traffic awareness, and inspired them to create traffic awareness clubs within their respective environments.
"Our campaign gave very positive results, we have noticed the direct effect on the behaviors of drivers when we stopped them in the streets of Madaba, as they expressed a mixture of astonishment and acknowledgment of our campaign while reading the messages on the greeting cards which urged drivers to avoid high speed that would result in tragic accidents killing innocent children and destroying the Joy of Eid." added al Hour.
The Traffic Ambassadors program which is part of RHAS Traffic Awareness Project that was based on the success of the National Traffic Awareness Campaign, launched by her Majesty Queen Rania in 2005. This one-year project recruits 22 traffic ambassadors in all Jordanian governorates, and aims at building capacities of young people in pursuit of serving their communities and by that enhancing traffic related behavior change that caters for child safety.
This Eid Campaign included the participation of students from Princess Basma Secondary School, Emad Al Deen Zinki Elementary School, and Fatimah AL Zahra' Elementary School who all worked to achieve "Safer Jordanian Roads"
