Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain: The Rotary Club of Manama (RCM) has recently donated a Blood Exchange Dialysis device to help Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) patients who are admitted in the Hereditary Blood Disorder Center in Salmaniya Medical Center.

A special ceremony that was held on the occasion, in which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between RCM and Bahrain Society for SCD Patients Care, in the presence of members of RCM and the society. The MoU was signed by RCM President Khalid Mukhtar, Abdul Hussain Dawani and Bahrain Society for SCD Patients Care President Mr. Zakariya Al Kadhem.

RCM President Khalid Mukhtar thanked RCM Past President Abdul Hussain Dawani for fully sponsoring the Blood Exchange dialysis (hemodialysis) device, on behalf of the Club, with the aim of alleviating the agony of SCD patients who are also suffering from renal diseases.

RCM President further explained that the installation of the device in the center would spare patients the suffering of being shifted to the artificial kidney unit in the hospital to undergo the dialysis process, which is required multiple times in a week for renal failure patients, and to reduce their contact with other patients while taking into consideration the frail immune system of SCD patients.

"This donation comes within the core of our responsibilities at RCM to help patients and assist institutions, individuals and NGOs supporting them. This includes patients suffering from cancer, SCD and chronic diseases among other diseases," Mr. Mukhtar added.

For his part, Mr. Al Kadhem expressed thanks and appreciation to RCM for the generous donation, which he said reflects a benevolent and humane gesture and strengthens social bonds and cohesion between the different segments of the Bahraini society.

Founded in 1965, RCM consists of 58 members who have been actively participating and organising key community projects for the past five decades, with the aim of contributing towards societal needs. The Club forms part of Rotary International which is the world’s first service club organisation and includes over 1.2 million members.
