Children learn the art and skills of drawing and colouring during the "Colour Surprises" week
Dubai, 21 August, 2004 - Shopping malls in Dubai are enjoying the colorful rays emitted by the rainbow as they host the events of the "Colour Surprises" week, the last week celebrated during the DSS, and which will continue till August 27.
"Colour Surprises" week organized by the Department of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS) is offering a number of events and activities, which are bound to improve the skills of children in drawing and colouring. Children will also be able to express their artistic skills by participating in a variety of workshops and competitions that are being held in many of the shopping malls.
A key attraction that helps showcase the artistic abilities of children during "Colour Surprises" week is the Rainbow World event that is being held in BurJuman Centre, Bin Sougat, Al Bustan Centre, Al Ghurair City, Deira City Centre and Oasis Centre. The Rainbow World workshops include a special zone which has been beautifully decorated to receive a large number of children who love to draw and colour.
Omar Al Falasi, member of the "Colour Surprises Committee" said: "The zone has been attractively designed for this event with bright and beautiful colours, mainly the seven colours of the rainbow. To bring about a cheerful atmosphere and brighten the lives of the children, there is also a large rainbow which has been drawn and coloured to make it look as if a real rainbow was very close to them".
Falasi said that the supervisors of this event were also wearing uniforms which reflect the colours of the rainbow. The supervisors teach the children how to use colour pencils in the right manner, and step-by-step help them draw beautiful pictures.
Each child goes about drawing his own picture with a pencil and then colouring it with the colours he has chosen from the seven colours of the rainbow. Children can even draw and colour with the colour pencils before drawing it anew with a regular pencil, a skill which only develops with talent.
Children also learn how to use and mix colours. To get the required colour, supervisors help the children to work it out through a trial-and-error process to get the right mix and which colour goes where in a picture, so that participants eventually come up with excellent drawings.
Each of the pictures drawn by the children will be entered into a competition in which the winner will receive beautiful and valuable gifts. DOHMS will also reward all other participants with gifts like colouring books and Lego games.
Dubai Summer Surprises 2004, which began on June 17 with the Art Surprises organised by the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department will end on August 27 with the current theme week of "Colour Surprises" organised by the Department of Health and Medical Services.
