Doha, Qatar - October 30, 2011: Qatar Project Management (QPM), one of the region's premier project management companies and the first Qatari firm in the field, has secured a contract to manage a huge new development on behalf of Qatar's Internal Security Force.
The Internal Security Force (ISF) has a requirement for a new camp at Al Duhail on the outskirts of Doha. QPM has secured the contract to oversee the design, construction and overall project management for the development, which will cover an impressive four million square meters in total. The development will be sited in Duhail area.
The ISF project will be large in scale, featuring more than 330 individual building units made up of several different types of purpose-built facilities. The new camp is expected to take five years to complete. QPM's brief requires its expertise to be available to the client throughout the timeline of the project from planning, through construction, and on to completion in 2016.
The ISF camp development is the first project in Qatar which has been targeted to achieve the QSAS Neighborhood Certification. QSAS is the 'Qatar Sustainability Assessment System', a new classification which aims to promote sustainability in construction and encourage sympathy between new developments and their surrounding areas.
QPM already possesses a thorough understanding of the QSAS requirements. QPM has been seeking sustainability and 'green awareness' in all applicable projects since the company's inception, its staff have significant experience in the field and an ongoing commitment to environmentally-friendly practices in their work.
QPM Managing Director, Dr Hassan Alfadala, commented, "QPM is delighted to have secured this contract with the Internal Security Force through competitive tender process. It's encouraging that QPM has become the preferred option for so many local contracts, and to have our expertise recognised by such an important client. QPM has an international reach in its work, but is wholly committed to the National Vision that is driving Qatar forward domestically.
"The expertise to sign off a development such as this new ISF camp exists in this country and it's a great boon that this is being recognised, indicating as it does that QPM is definitely moving in the right direction.
"The required QSAS Certification is one aspect of the development where we feel QPM can excel. Our associates have a comprehensive understanding of the concepts and practice of sustainable development through all stages of a project, and this new camp will be a milestone in the path of Qatar's emergence as a world player with a commitment to responsible construction.
"It will also underline QPM's reach, its responsibility, and its adaptability to any type of project," Dr Alfadala concluded.
QPM stands as one of the region's foremost project management companies, and uses its internationally-trained team and state-of-the-art technologies to set new standards within the industry. The company is active domestically and throughout the MENA region and provides a centralized platform for the project management of local and international developments.
