Abu Dhabi - Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), in collaboration with Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) UK, has hosted a Proficiency Testing Programme for lifting equipment inspectors working in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The first of its kind programme in the world aimedto understand and enhance the technical competency of inspectors in order to deliverworld class inspection services in the emirate.
167 inspectors from 33 inspection bodies, all of them from the emirate of Abu Dhabi, participated in the program which was held from 29April to 14 May, 2015.
The method used to deliver the programme was based on the demonstration of an actual inspection project which involved the preparation of astation comprising lifting equipment and its accessories similar to the ones used in the market. Each inspector thoroughly examined each item and provided the expert team of instructors with a written report as the final product of the inspection process.
This year'sprogramme was the second round in QCC's Proficiency Testing Programmeafter the initial one was conducted in September last year. The improvement was clearly seen in the performance of the inspectors, as the detection rate of the faults seen by the inspectors improved by 17%, while the overall final judgment from the inspection process improved by 14% compared to the last year's Proficiency Testing Programme.
Abdullah Hassan Al Muaini, the Executive Director of Conformity Scheme Services at QCCsaid: Improving the quality and competency levels of technical personnel is a key priority for QCC towards building a solid quality infrastructure in Abu Dhabi. At QCC, we seek to achieve this priority through supporting our stakeholders and enabling them to meet regulatoryrequirements and technical regulations. This will significantly contribute to the improvement of technical services provided, while enhancing the safety of both personnel and residents."
Al Muaini added: "Our proficiency testing programs are conducted on a regular basis to solve the mismatch of skills with job requirements. In addition to improving the skills and competitiveness of personnel, such programmes help them advance in their career paths and consistently meet the demands from the industry."
The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of Abu Dhabi's exports and products traded locally. QCC sets guidelines and benchmarks to identify and verify that products manufactured and traded in the emirate conform to the highest quality standards. In addition to protecting the interests of Abu Dhabi's consumers, QCC is mandated to support its competitive economy and integration into the global marketplace. This is achieved through enabling regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes.
