Roads & Transport Authority - Manal Khalid: The proceeds of the 71st open Distinguished Number Plates Auction recently held by Licensing Agency of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) at RTA Theatre have touched a new height over the past one and a half years. The Auction, which attracted a huge crowd of community members particularly interested in distinguished licensing plates, has recorded a total proceeds of a record AED18,024,000.

Commenting on the Auction, the CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency Ahmed Bahrozyan, said: "We have assembled about 110 distinguished number plates of all categories and 15 plates for motorbikes. The sale topper was (K - 20); which was sold for AED2.1 million, followed by a two-digit plate (J - 44) which was exchanged for AED1.77 million. The five-digit plate (K 11111) was sold for AED1.5 million, the three-digit plate (K 111) fetched AED1.3 million, and the binary number plate (K 71) was knocked down for one million dirham.

"The 71st Number Plate Auction was the first to be held this year; which underscored the huge public turnout and participation of various community segments in the Auction; which now ranks as the flagship of RTA Distinguished Number Plates Auctions in terms of sales revenues. The sale results also constituted strong evidence that the market of distinguished number plates is still vibrant and apparently unaffected by the surrounding circumstances.

"The success of licensing plates underlies the clear vision mapped out by Vehicles Licensing Dep't in this regard in developing suitable plans & programs relating to the timing of the auction and types of numbers to be auctioned, besides paying attention to striking a balance between the supply and demand forces in the local market. Staging these auctions is of great benefit in stirring the competition between attendants in a transparent and clear format; which contributes to raising the nominal valued of number plates on offer," said Bahrozyan in a final remark.
