Peikko Group’s subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates, Peikko Gulf LLC, is chosen to supply its DELTABEAM® Slim Floor Structure to the Sun Island housing project located in Sharjah, the UAE. The order comprises 5.5 kilometers of DELTABEAM® Composite Beams and a significant amount of HPM® Anchor Bolts. Peikko’s deliveries for the project are ongoing and will continue until 2019. The project is estimated to be finished by 2021.
Sun Island housing includes altogether 268 villas and is a part of Sharjah Waterfront City project. The ambitious project of Sharjah Waterfront City will be built over eight islands along 36 kilometers of waterfront, covering an area of over 18 million square meters. The area will cover hotels, 1,500 housing units and 95 mixed-use high-rise buildings, a central business district, shopping centers and other tourism facilities. The project is developed by Sharjah Oasis Real Estate Development, and the structural design of the villas is made by Naga Architects. The main contractor of the Sun Island is Tech-Construction, and the precast elements are supplied by Abu Dhabi Precast.
“If this project was made with precast beams, support beams would have been needed. The design requirements of this project were for a slim floor structure, so we had to use out-of-the-box engineering approaches to solve the structural demands without impacting the design. Our choice was the Finnish innovative technology of Peikko, the DELTABEAM® Slim Floor Structure, to provide support to the cantilevered elements of the villas. This enhances the aesthetical appearance by avoiding the use of any drop-down beams and thus enabling full-height windows or curtain walls,” says Mr. Hazan from Naga Architects.
“Our DELTABEAM® is a flexible and versatile solution that combines perfectly the speed of installation with architecturally demanding shapes and slim floors. It enables slender and light structural solutions that provide savings in terms of volume and costs. Its composite action between steel and concrete allows for creative structures with large open spaces,” explains Topi Paananen, CEO of Peikko Group Corporation.
