VERITAS Seeks Input from Middle East Businesses Via Beta Version
Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Following the success of the recent VERITAS VISION event in Dubai, the Middle East offices of VERITAS Software Corporation are encouraging regional customers to provide input for the worldwide public beta of "Panther" - a true continuous data protection solution that delivers the industry's first and only web-based end user file recovery software.
The need to preserve data is clearly a paramount concern for business across the GCC; more than 40 percent of businesspeople interviewed in a recent IDC survey, presented at VERITAS VISION 2005, said their storage spending was driven by the problems of data protection and disaster recovery. Panther addresses this concern through its point-in-time snapshot system, which captures granular changes to individual files in real-time. This state-of-the-art solution facilitates the versioning of data files, and allows customers to go to one vendor for recovery of data from disk or traditional tape back-up.
With the VERITAS VISION IDC study stating that the Gulf states spend $4.15 billion a year on IT services, information technology is clearly a vital necessity for businesses across the GCC region. Panther will place its users at the forefront of IT innovation, and at an affordable price. Allowing end users to upload their own files without the assistance of an IT specialist, Panther pushes resources towards more crucial and productive business needs. Dovetailing with traditional tape backup, VERITAS' state-of-the-art technology requires no additional software installation on individual desktops and laptops, and will come as a relief to SMBs with small IT departments.
"Panther allows regional IT departments to manage more with less. Businesses will no longer have to spend hours painstakingly transferring data to tape, and IT departments will no longer have to spend hours trawling through tapes in a laborious search for missing data. Businesses across the GCC rely on quick decisions in reaction to constant market changes, and it is impossible to make these strategic decisions if IT departments are wasted on time-consuming data retrieval tasks. By downloading our Panther beta, companies across the GCC will instantly make themselves quicker, more mobile and more proactive," Sam Tayan, regional manager of VERITAS Middle East, commented.
Built from proven and trusted technology in market-leading VERITAS Backup Exec software, Panther will provide constant, automatic data protection based upon point-in-time data snapshots, while allowing end users to easily recover lost and corrupted files using an intuitive, simple web browser interface on their own individual desktops or laptops. The beta software can be downloaded via www.veritas.com/panther, and VERITAS is urging Middle East businesses to try out the free sample and embrace the full benefits of effective data storage.
Analysts Support Panther Path
"More and more customers today are evaluating and adopting continuous data protection technologies for requirements as diverse as enabling regulatory compliance or perhaps to simply restore data more quickly," said Peter Gerr, Senior Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "VERITAS' Panther solution empowers end-users to recover data, freeing administrators for more productive or strategic projects. By leveraging its field proven Backup Exec technology, VERITAS is able to deliver a continuous data protection solution that is unique in the industry - providing users with innovative features and world-class reliability."
Although Panther's route-to-market has yet to be confirmed, the product will carry ties to previous Backup Exec technology. The pioneering new product has already received positive feedback from several Americans companies, including Farmers and Merchants Bank, which claims the Panther solution is perfectly adapted to their environment, as it ensures data is always secure and, just as importantly, always available.
Panther will increase the technological gap between VERITAS and its competitors. The company is also currently launching version 4.2 of CommandCentral Service and Storage, and has recently unveiled NetBackup 6.0, the latest version of its proven storage solution, and Enterprise Vault 6.0, which enables users to discover content held within email, file system and collaborative environments. Panther builds upon the flexibility which is intrinsic to these solutions, and takes giant strides towards meeting the complex storage challenges of the Middle East.
