Background
Following the end of the Lebanese civil war in 1992, Electricit Du Liban (EDL) initiated an ambitious plan to rebuild its utilities. A part of its reconstruction plan was to implement a new Geographic Information System in Beirut called GISEL to model and manage the electric infrastructure. In December 1993, K&A, in professional association with Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), was contracted by EDL to conduct an Automated Mapping/Facility Management/Geographic Information systems (AM/FM/GIS) study to modernize, automate and informate the electric power system of Lebanon utilizing the GIS approach.
From then on, a series of GISEL projects came into being and were executed to fulfill GISEL's mission and vision.
EDL services more than 3.0 million electric customers in a 10,000 square kilometers service territory.
