Sohar – Hutchison Ports Sohar is taking another bold step towards modernizing its operations in Sohar Port with the launch of its new Auto Gate system.
Officially launched under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Salem Al-Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications in Oman on 13 May 2017, Auto Gate promises to make shipments at the port faster and more secure, thereby further strengthening Sohar’s reputation as one of the region’s leading container ports.
The event also marked the commemoration of OCEAN ALLIANCE service to the Terminal C. Weekly calls from such big maritime industry giants demonstrates how Hutchison Ports Sohar plays an anchor role in attracting new volumes to Oman.
“The ability to cater to growing demand for container shipments can be attributed to our investments in technology and smart systems to optimize and modernize our operations at the terminal. These investments are geared toward developing the Sohar region into a commercial and industrial port that is more attractive to investors and traders. I believe the gates will help open up new opportunities for Oman” said Albert Pang, Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Ports Sohar.
Auto gate system utilizes smart technologies to allow drivers to simply drive through the gates with no documentation or delays. Drivers can remain inside their vehicles during inspection, security checks, and container movements. The system includes machine-readable cards that store driver information, cameras using optical character recognition that recognizes trucks, gate kiosks that read shipping codes, and a truck ID system to improve port security.
