Muscat: Oman Dental College (ODC), the first and only dental college in the Sultanate of Oman, held its first graduation ceremony at the Crowne Plaza on December 8, 2012. Forty- seven successful candidates received their Bachelor of Dentistry (BDS) certificates.
H E Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, Undersecretary, Ministry of Higher Education graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
ODC's Dean, Dr. Rahul Arora, comments, "We are immensely proud of our first batch of graduates. We salute them for having the commitment and dedication to work through this exacting course successfully. We also acknowledge the role of their families in being so supportive of their education over these six years."
The BDS course is a 6-year curriculum and is based on a blend of British and Indian BDS curricula. It is designed to meet the respective academic and professional standards of both as specified by the UK General Dental Council (GDC) and the Dental Council of India (DCI). This has been verified and endorsed by the International Advisory Panel, which includes experts from Europe and the UK. While the BDS curriculum at ODC is contemporary and adaptive to the international scenario, it has also been adapted to local conditions and is therefore an original and unique curriculum specifically designed to suit the needs of the Sultanate of Oman and its students.
Dr. Mohamed Al Ismaily, Chairman Oman Dental College adds, "It has always been ODC's intention to play an active and informed role in achieving the long sighted vision of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, for both the Higher Educational and Healthcare sectors in Oman. To this end, ODC 's state-of-the-art dental college and hospital benefits both citizens and residents, reflecting the true spirit of public -private partnership"
