Abu Dhabi - The Abu Dhabi Department of Transport's 'Ojra' fare structure for bus travel in the city of Abu Dhabi comes into effect from Sunday, February 15. Bus commuters either have to use monthly or daily passes, or buy a day ticket for Dh. 1.

As an incentive, passengers buying a monthly Ojra pass have been offered extended validity until March 31, 2009. Monthly pass holders thus get free travel during the rest of February.

The Monthly and Day 'Ojra' passes can be purchased at bus stands, and Ojra-branded kiosks at Marina Mall, Khalidiya Police Station, Central Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and other selected outlets.

"The launch of Ojra marks a historic day in the history of public transport in Abu Dhabi," said Mr. Saeed Al Hameli, General Manager - Bus Office, DoT. "This will prepare us to raise the bar on our services, and get closer to our goal of making public transport convenient, accessible and affordable. We would like to urge all sections of society to try our bus services as an alternative to private car usage."

Starting Sunday, February 15, bus travellers have the following options to choose from:

·         Obtain a Monthly Pass for Dh. 40, for unlimited travel for a whole month.

·         Obtain a Day Pass for Dh. 3 for unlimited travel for one day.

·         Buy a single-trip ticket for Dh. 1.

"OJRA will help passengers save car fuel and maintenance costs, and provide an attractive alternative to driving in personal vehicles and running around to find parking. Finally, using public transport will reduce congestion on roads, thus lowering pollution levels and creating a cleaner, greener and healthier environment," said Al Hameli.

DoT has made arrangements to make Ojra passes available through multiple outlets and branded kiosks, and more outlets will be added to the list in the days to come.
