NEC Computers International (NEC CI), one of the major subsidiaries of NEC Corporation, today introduces the NEC VERSA T400, the world’s thinnest and lightest tablet PC that will provide mobile workers with NEC latest technology, maximum portability, performance and ultra-high flexibility.

Developed by NEC Corporation, the NEC VERSA T400 will allow mobile workers to benefit from the combination of maximum portability, performance and flexibility. The NEC VERSA T400 is an ultra thin -15mm - and light - 999g* -platform for business users who require maximum portability.

Users can write directly onto the 10.4 inch screen using a digital pen, browse the Internet, send e-mail and even use the tablet as a mobile telephone.

Powered by an Ultra-Low-Voltage Mobile Intelâ Pentiumâ III Processor - M at 933 MHz, including Intelâ SpeedStepâ Technology, which automatically optimises application performance and power usage to deliver longer battery life, the tablet promises to meet the needs of those who do not want the weight and bulkiness of a notebook, but still need advanced computing power on the move.

“The VERSA T400 represents the vanguard of 21st century computing. We anticipate demand to outstrip supply for this futuristic technology. NEC is not only one of the first technology companies to release a tablet PC, but has the additional credit of making it the thinnest and lightest available - without compromising on functionality,” said Lenia Iacovides, Managing Director of interFRONTIERS, the Cyprus-based Regional Business Development Unit for NEC Computers International in the Middle East, Mediterranean, Adriatic and Africa regions.

According to research company IDC, the Tablet PC market is expecting to ship 675,000 units in the US alone in 2003 – that’s five per cent of the total notebook market. Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said the new format could eventually account for one-third of all computers - by supplanting the laptop.

Add in the NEC VERSA T400’s support for Voice over IP (VoIP) - that will allow users to receive and give calls as well as transfer voice data, to have discussions while editing and viewing the same material in real-time from remote locations – and the tablet will clearly prove to be outstandingly popular.
The tablet is loaded with Microsoftâ Windowsâ XP Tablet PC Edition, and a complete suite of the latest applications, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook Express, Norton Antivirus 2002, Acrobat Reader 5.0, and Plug-ins for a digital pen.

The NEC VERSA T400 comes with a built-in 10/100 LAN card and wireless 802.11a/b card, which makes it easy to connect while away from the office. Additionally, the NEC VERSA T400 features three USB 2.0 ports and one CF card slot, allowing for the connection of almost every kind of external device imaginable.

The tablet is available in the Middle East today, from any of the regional NEC CI Authorised Resellers: Al Yousuf Computers in the UAE; Computer Castle and Saudi Soft in Saudi Arabia, Universe Computers in Kuwait and @ Computers in Bahrain, or you can contact NEC’s Regional Business Development Unit, Cyprus-based interFRONTIERS on email: info@inter-frontiers.com.
