The Self Meter Reading initiative receives a positive response from public
The self-meter reading billing procedure initiated by Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC) has received tremendous response according to officials of MEDC. The new system of electricity consumption cataloguing - wherein customers record their readings and relay them directly to MEDC - was launched last week as part of MEDC's 'You know it better' campaign.
A huge chunk of MEDC customers have transferred to the new meter reading process, with the highest preference for transmitting readings being MEDC's smartphone application. The company is also receiving meter recordings via all of its other available channels - email, paper entries and the MEDC web portal and website.
The widespread acceptance of the new system, claim MEDC authorities, endorses its viability and effectiveness in enabling accurate billing statements. Currently popular is the smart phone application that provides simple and easy ways for registering and receiving notifications. The apps can be downloaded from the App Store or the Android PlayStore. MEDC expects that customers will use the application in their communication as its popularity and user base increases.
MEDC became the first company in Oman last week to launch self-meter reading as part of its ongoing strive to enhance its services. It is conducting a nationwide campaign titled 'You know it better' to educate customers on the precision and accuracy of the process, in a follow-up to what is a global trend for recording household electricity consumption. The company is optimistic that the new system will spark a positive change in meter reading as it gains wider acceptance and application among customers.
