Doha, Qatar (26 November 2012) - Qatar's largest Greenfield developer, Lusail City Real Estate Development Company (LREDC), today organized an HSE Day bringing together some of the leading experts and advocates in the health, safety and environment industry in Qatar.
Organized by Lusail's Health, Safety, Security, Environment, Logistics and Quality Department (HSSELQ) in collaboration with Doka Qatar WLL, the event served as a platform for the growing HSE industry at a time when the wellbeing of employees is commanding more focus in workplaces in Qatar.
A series of keynotes and presentations from some of the leading firms in Qatar filled the event's agenda, as participants reflected and built on existing ideas, and exchanged knowledge.
"Before the discovery of oil... the natives of Qatari peninsula constructed buildings with minimum risks to human wellbeing. In creating a city for the future generations, Lusail City is retracing the footsteps of our forefathers," said Engineer Essa Mohammed Ali Kaldari, CEO of LREDC in his welcoming speech.
"Our support for this event stems from our values of building with and for passion. Lusail's HSSELQ Department has made on-the-job safety its mission and our record reflects relentless promotion of workplace safety and health as well as a reduction of workplace fatalities, injuries, and illnesses," added Eng. Kaldari.
As an instigator of innovation in constructing Qatar's largest real estate undertaking to date, LREDC continues to acknowledge its partners who uphold the highest HSE values.
The company promotes people's health and safety by recognizing man-hour milestones. Its most prestigious gold award is given for 10 million man hours without any lost-time-incident.
Eng. Salem Al-Kuwari, director of Lusail HSSELQ said, "We've come a long way and have faced many challenges in Lusail City's development, yet we continue to strive to become one of the leaders in HSE management in Qatar, and the rest of the Middle East."
Other speakers sketched the broader range of HSE landscape in Qatar with perspectives from Ministry of Labour, Doka, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) as well as Velosi, further enabling dialogue.
Doka Qatar WLL, a subsidiary of Austrian formwork experts Doka GmBH, presented "Safety Systems to Boost Productivity" which focused on systems required to maintain vigilance toward risk-free working at the jobsite and highlighted practical examples of full safety packages which have already been deployed in Lusail. The message of the event also sought to reinforce that safety is a living practice. The conclusion of the presentation was cooperation and trust between supplier and contractor is necessary.
Ralf Buerger, Managing Director, Doka Qatar said, "We are extremely pleased to partner with Lusail Real Estate Development Company to bring together the industry in Qatar's reliable construction marketplace. The event is timely as there is a need in working with concrete to keep the market updated with the latest safety innovations in formwork. There is already a history of high safety in practice between Lusail and Doka. Participating in this event is our role to uphold the highest standards, boost worker confidence and therefore productivity with our systems, and of course contribute to overall sustainability."
Lusail City, spread over 38 square kilometres, is master planned to accommodate 200,000 residents, 170,000 workers and 80,000 daily visitors.
