LiveRoof, LLC, Spring Lake, Michigan, U.S.A. is pleased to announce the availability of the LiveRoof® green roof system in the Dubai and the United Arab Emirates through Shatalat Irrigation Services, Dubai, U.A.E.

Greenroofs, also called "living roofs," "roof gardens," and "vegetated roofs" are rooftops covered with soil and plants.  Greenroofs have been used widely in some European countries for decades and global interest and acceptance of these systems has grown rapidly in recent years.

LiveRoof® is a green roof system developed by a horticulturist in conjunction with a team of experts in the fields of roofing, architecture, soil science, and ergonomics.  Growing LiveRoof® has been distributed successfully in the United States and Canada under the horticultural expertise of local growers.  The plants are grown to maturity so that each LiveRoof® module arrives to the job site with fully lush plants inside the container.  The installer then simply sets the modules in place on the rooftop.  This approach to green roofs minimizes the required installation time as well as subsequent rooftop plant maintenance to provide an instant, functional green roof.

Green roofs reduce stormwater runoff, especially during peak periods, which eases the burden on municipal stormwater systems.  Plants release water as they transpire and they are more reflective than black waterproofing, so they offer a cooling benefit for the building owner which saves money on energy use and also reduces the intake temperature for rooftop HVAC systems. On a larger scale, green roofs contribute to reductions the urban heat island effect, which is the tendency for urban areas with impermeable surfaces to be higher in temperature than the surrounding suburbs.

Amber Poncé, LiveRoof's Business Development Manager, adds "Given the benefits they offer, we anticipate that green roofs will become a large part of Dubai's commitment to reducing the region's carbon footprint. We are pleased to announce our ability to offer LiveRoof through Shatalat Irrigation Services and look forward to participating in the greening of the region."

"With the initiatives of the Dubai Municipality and the Abu Dhabi's Urban Planning Council on green roofs, we are pleased to offer a superior Green Roof system from LiveRoof®, the system is simple, effective and attractive being superior in design and implementation to both conventional green roofs and other modular green roof systems," states Mr. Mohammed Al Quraishi, CEO & Owner of Shatalat Irrigation Services and Renewed Lighting Solutions.

Dubai Municipality has launched green roof initiatives and plans to have green roof applications on all roofs of buildings and houses in Dubai in line with the application of green building specifications in Dubai.

Abu Dhabi's Urban Planning Council recently including green roofs as one of the principal recommendations in its new community guidelines under its Estidama sustainability programme.

Shatalat Irrigation Services is the distributor of Subsurface Drip Irrigation from Geoflow, USA and associates of TORO Ag for Rootguard® and Wasteflow®. Subsurface Drip Irrigation (SDI) allows precise application of water, nutrients and other agrochemicals directly to the root zone of grass, plants, shrubs and ground covers thus allowing growth optimization. Depth and placement of the subsurface drip lines is determined by the soil composition and planting needs, efficient installation has water moving by capillary action beneath the surface and forming a continuous wetted area along the plant rows.

Subsurface Drip Irrigation has several benefits such as:

Substantial Water Savings of 60% - No More water loss due to evaporation, mist, surface runoff and wind interference. The system waters the area uniformly by capillary actions, and avoids the waste of overspray. It is extremely efficient for narrow or odd-shaped areas such as median strips and planting beds.

Grow Healthier Plants - Controlled balance of oxygen and water results in healthy root growth and less plant stress. Dry foliage reduces fungus and mildew.

No Splash Damage - Avoid rot and watermarks on fences, walls and sidewalks caused by sprinkler and splash damage. Irrigate narrow and irregular areas.

Safe and Efficient Fertilizing - Fertilizers flow directly to the roots, eliminating waste and avoiding human contact.

Healthier, Better Quality Turf - Direct irrigation encourages sturdy and deep root growth. A dry surface reduces disease as well as damage to grass caused by human and equipment traffic.

Less System Damage - Hidden below ground, the system is safe from breakage caused by vandalism, theft, automobiles, aerators and mowers. The absence of moving parts reduces the risk of failure.

Improved Soil Aeration - Without sprinkler droplets to cause compaction, fine soil particles will not wash into the ground.
