The ongoing partnership between Live Lebanon-UNDP and BBAC (Bank of Beirut and the Arab Countries) continues to prove its enduring commitment to sustainable initiatives throughout the country. The latest road safety project has been inauguratedin the town of Sultan Yaacoub in the West Bekaa due to the invaluable contribution of the town's expatriates in Brazil, and the active support of Live Lebanon's Goodwill Ambassador for Brazil, Mr. Moustapha Abdouni.
Sultan Yaacoub's residents live in precarious conditions because of the lack of a cohesive lighting system during the night.In response to this crisis, the project provided the Municipality with 33streetlights powered by clean solar energy in order to enforce safety standards at night. The Head of Sultan Yaacoub Municipality,Mr. Ahmad Jaroush,said happily, "At last, a community's dream for safe nighttime conditions has come true."
Also present were UNDP representatives,Head of BBAC Jib Jannine branch,Mr. AbdulKarim Abdouny, and Goodwill Ambassador, Moustapha Abdouni, who reiterated the importanceof street lighting to increase the safety of pedestrians at night and improve driving conditions in order to avoid accidents.Reflecting upon the project's importance, Mr. Abdul Karim Abdouny described Live Lebanon and BBAC's partnership as "a pioneering force of positive action that promotes economic, environmental, youth and health projects in areas that need it most."
