• The renewed partnership will allow Dubai Autodrome’s visitors to experience the adrenaline-fuelled thrill of driving an Abarth on track

Dubai: Track enthusiasts can look forward to another adrenaline-fuelled year of ‘The Scorpionship’ following the announcement that Dubai Autodrome and Abarth will continue their partnership agreement in 2021. The deal means that the Italian pocket rocket with the famous scorpion badge will continue to be the circuit’s ‘Official Vehicle Partner’ for the year ahead.

Building on the success of the partnership in 2020, Abarth has dedicated three Abarth 595 Competizione vehicles to be part of the Dubai Autodrome fleet, giving the UAE’s speed demons the opportunity to experience the turbocharged 1.4-litre engine with 180hp in its spiritual home – the racetrack!

A symbol of performance and iconic Italian style in the small sports car segment, Abarth is also all set to welcome its local enthusiasts from Abarth Club Dubai, Middle East’s first official Abarth club, with over 50 dedicated ‘Abarthisti’ hosting and participating in racetrack events year-round.

Mark Jenkins, CEO of National Auto, the official dealership for Abarth in Dubai and the Northern Emirates said: “The renewal of our partnership with Dubai Autodrome strengthens a mutually beneficial collaboration which, for the second consecutive year, has enabled the Abarth brand to showcase its high-performance and offer those visiting the Autodrome an experience full of thrills and excitement. The Abarth brand is a reference point in the motorsport sector with heritage stretching back 70 years, and the Dubai Autodrome has been an ideal hub to present the brand’s strengths, so we look forward to continuing this in 2021.”

Jo Moursi, Head of Italian Brands, Middle East at Stellantis, added: “Abarth vehicles are the perfect blend of sportiness and style, and Abarth 595 Competizione demonstrates this without compromise, pushing performance to the absolute limit. We can’t wait to get our Abarthisti back on track and behind the wheel at the Dubai Autodrome.”

Located 25 minutes from central Dubai, the Dubai Autodrome is a safe and controlled motoring environment that can accommodate large crowds, whether as a local social destination or as a tourist attraction for overseas visitors.

Abarth

It was in 1949 that Carlo Abarth, after a career racing motorcycles and cars, founded Abarth & C with Guido Scagliarini. The first vehicle produced was the 204 A, based on the Fiat 1100. It immediately won the 1100 Sport Championship as well as Formula 2. Alongside racing, the company started to produce tuning kits that improved the performance, power and speed of standard vehicles.

Over the course of the next two decades, Carlo Abarth’s performance modified cars achieved success in every competition and set many records, and the Abarth brand became synonymous with sport, tuning and performance.

Abarth’s union with Fiat came in 1971, with Fiat’s acquisition of Abarth & C S.p.A. Under Fiat ownership, Abarth became the Fiat Group's racing department, and went on to produce some of history’s most legendary racing machines, including the Fiat 124 Abarth Rally and 131 Abarth, and the Lancia Beta Montecarlo Turbo Group 5 racing car and the Lancia Rally 037 Group B rally car.
