SOHAR terminal operators C.Steinweg Oman delighted with recognition
The C.Steinweg Oman LLC operated terminal within SOHAR Port and Freezone has once again been recognized for its security and safety conditions, being the proud holder of the coveted International Ship and Port Facility Security Code Certificate (ISPS Code).
The ISPS Code highlights security credentials and outlines measures in place that enhance the security of ships and port facilities, the work undertaken by C.Steinweg Oman LLC in upscaling these efforts has resulted in the renewal of the certificate.
The ISPS Code was created and developed in response to the perceived threats to ships and port facilities in the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the United States. Shipping lines operating from SOHAR Port can now rest assured that they are operating in conditions of maximum security and safety.
Implemented through the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), the ISPS is designed to detect security threats and implement relevant security measures. The protocols establish roles and responsibilities in matters of maritime security for Governments, local administrations, and ship and port industries at both national and international levels. Further, they collate and distribute security-related information, and provide a methodology for security assessments so that plans and procedures can be put in place to react to changing security levels.
Deputy Chief Executive officer for SOHAR Port and Freezone, Jamal Aziz said: "We're delighted to the sea the extension of this certificate. Without a doubt, safety and security is paramount to the ongoing success of our terminals in SOHAR and I'm pleased the measures Steinweg had in place and further improved in the last years have been recognised and rewarded."
Established in 2004, C.Steinweg Oman terminal handles industrial project cargoes, including heavy lifts; a variety of break-bulk cargoes including aluminum ingots and sows; steel billets, coils, pipes, tubes and plates; and dry-bulk cargoes.
Furthermore C.Steinweg Oman has established a Container Freight Station service and is taking care of all stuffing and stripping requirements inside the SOHAR Port area. ENDS
