Muscat, 27 February 2011- Under the patronage and presence of HE Ahmad Abdul Nabi Macki, Minister of National Economy, Deputy Chairman of the Financial & Energy Resources Council, Haya Water officially opened the main part of the Bausher Water Reuse Project.
The event was attended by a number of Ministers, Excellencies, Wallis, Directors General, and journalists welcomed by Haya's Chairman H.E. Sultan Bin Hamdoun Al Harthy.
In a speech delivered during the event, Haya's Chief Executive Officer Omar Al-Wahaibi said: "We are witnessing today the launch of one of the essential parts of Muscat's water reuse project which started in 2005 aiming to connect more than 90% of the population to the new network. Bausher project was among the first phases of the project, and we meet today to celebrate this achievement, an achievement for Haya and everyone else who contributed in the success of it".
Effective operation of the new Plant at al Ansab and the connection of buildings to the network in Ghubra and Azaiba and Azaiba Sea Front started in the last quarter of 2009. Some 7420 buildings besides housing units at The Waves project have been connected to the network by the end of 2010. Work is underway to connect the remaining properties in these areas, Al Wahaibi added.
Mr. Al-Wahaibi indicated that this stage is the corner stone of the water reuse project in Bausher, adding that the company is currently working on the completion of the main trunk line to connect areas from Al-Hamria Roundabout to the complete line near all Ghubra Power and Desalination Plant. The company is also currently implementing sewage network in Al-Khuwair, and will issue a new tender for the construction of sewage networks in Qurum and Ilam areas.
This stage covers areas of Ghubra and Azaiba and paves the way for the next stage, which will include several other districts such as Al-Ilam, Qurum, Sarooj and Al-Khuwair. In addition to the sewage collection networks, the project includes a main pumping station in Azaiba that pumps the collected wastewater to Al-Ansab Treatment Plant. It also includes a treated water distribution network. The production capacity of the plant is about 55000 cubic meter/day of treated water in the first stage, which will be followed by other stages with the production capacity increasing as per the requirements of the wilayat.
It is worth noting that Al-Ansab Sewage Treatment Plant is the one of the largest in the project. It uses the Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) technology which produced high-quality and pollutant-free treated water. This plant is has a special importance since it serves as the central monitoring unit for all treatment plants and networks in Muscat.
The company is currently implementing an integrated water reuse system for the wilayat of Seeb. It includes a water treatment plant with a production capacity of 60 thousand cubic meters per day, a main collection line, several wastewater collection networks and water-reuse distribution networks.
HAYA Water announced recently the signing of an agreement with a consortium of Cadagua SA / Galfar Engineering for building a new Sewage Treatment Plant at Darsait with a total cost of more than RO 37 million and is expected to be completed within 1095 days. The plant catchment include the areas of Wadi Al Kabir, Hamriya, Ruwi, Bait Al Falaj, Darsait, Coastal Darsait, Aynt, Muttrah, Muscat, Sidab and Al Bustan.
The event was followed by a tour on Al Ansab STP where the company's CEO briefed H.E. and the invitees on the latest technologies used by the operation . in addition to this, a Mobile Unit, equipped with state of the art audio visual equipments was showcased. The mobile unit will be visiting different areas in Muscat to educate people on the company's activities
