DUBAI, UAE: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) has announced that IT Wiz Quiz, India’s largest annual inter-school IT quiz competition, is making it’s debut in the Middle East, hosting UAE students aged 14 to 17 at the phygital (physical and digital) quiz, aimed at building awareness of the importance of IT skills.
TCS launched IT Wiz Quiz in 1999 to spark interest in technology among high school students. Over the past 23 years it has become one of the most popular quiz competitions in India. The quiz covers technological trends for the future, the application of IT across various sectors, as well as emerging trends such as AI and cloud computing. It also examines areas where IT has made a significant impact, such as social media and EdTech, which students are very familiar with in the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Sumanta Roy, Vice President & Regional Head, Middle East & Africa, Tata Consultancy Services, said, “TCS IT Wiz Quiz emphasizes the integral role that IT plays in the knowledge economy in the current global scenario. It is a key enabler for success in diverse fields and encourages students to learn voluntarily and sets them up for future success. I wish the very best to all the participants, and I hope they learn and have fun too. I would like to thank the various education ministries of the all the emirates who have helped us to bring this event to UAE.”
Closely aligned with Expo 2020’s key theme of “Opportunity”, the quiz has so far seen students from more than 200 schools in the UAE register over the past month. The finalists will be hosted at an event held at the India Pavilion, on site at the megaevent in Dubai for the semi-finals and finals that will eventually see the UAE champion crowned.
Lalitha Suresh, Principal, GEMS Our Own Indian School, said, “Initiatives such as the ITWiz Quiz are so important, as they encourage learning in a fun way and look beyond what students find in their textbooks and classrooms. At GEMS Our Own Indian School, we seek to engage our students in diverse means of learning to expand their knowledge and understanding, and this event provides our students a valuable opportunity to do so. This will also help our students in their project-based learning and with putting their ideas into practice.”
TCS IT Wiz Quiz has also been named in the LIMCA Book of Records as India’s first IT quiz and as a pioneer in the field of IT quizzing. Its intelligent and interesting mix of questions, introduction of new technology concepts like software-based rounds, gamification, animation and others, make it an all-round edutainment event.
