Sports feast on Showtime
Dubai, September 25, 2002: Middle East sports fans already enjoying a soccer feast on Showtime, are set for more premium action with Bundesliga handball, international heavyweight boxing, WTA tennis, FIVB beach volleyball and live and exclusive golf coverage of the Ryder Cup.
The network which already broadcasts Italian Serie A – the most popular football league in the Middle East among Arab nationals - on the Abu Dhabi Sports Channel, has also added live and exclusive weekly football coverage from the Dutch Eredivisie.
A number of key Euro 2004 qualifying matches, including Slovakia v England and Italy’s fixtures against Yugoslavia and Wales will also be broadcast on Abu Dhabi Sports Channel.
Showtime Sport and Abu Dhabi Sports Channel also have extensive live and exclusive coverage of all the Wednesday night fixtures from the UEFA Champions League.
Reigning Olympic super heavyweight boxing champion Audley Harrison will be hoping to go one step further than friend and mentor Frank Bruno and lift the world heavyweight crown. Showtime Sport will be covering his next fights as he aims to win a coveted shot at the championship.
Handball is one of the fastest growing sports in the Middle East with Zamalek Cairo, Al Salmiya Kuwait and Al Saad Qatar among the top handball teams in the world.
It’s also a new sport to Showtime with coverage of the best games from the German Bundesliga, the best league in the world.
There is also huge interest in the FIVB beach volleyball tournaments on Showtime Sport. As the season comes to a close with events for both men and women in Spain and Brazil, it is the Brazilians who have been dancing the samba beat ahead of the United States and Australia.
The Ryder Cup, the most confrontational event in world golf, is live and exclusive on Showtime Sport this month. The best golfers from Europe and America go head-to-head on the Brabazon course at the De Vere Belfry, Sutton Coldfield, England, from September 27-29.
