The Training and Development Centre positions itself as the region's first postal training hub

Dubai, April 7, 2004: His Excellency Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, UAE Minister of Communications and Chairman of Emirates Post, today inaugurated the state-of-the-art Training and Development Centre of Emirates Post, which has been set up to fulfill the training needs of Emirates Post and other postal organizations in the region.

The Centre is equipped with advanced equipment and facilities to deliver high-value training, such as an auditorium, a meeting room, three training halls, two training cubicles, projectors, latest Smart boards, shared network and AMX system. The Centre provided training for 536 employees of Emirates Post during 2003.

Speaking at the official opening of the Training and Development Centre, H.E. Al Tayer, said: “Emirates Post’s Training and Development Centre has been positioned as the postal training hub of the region to cater to the training needs of different postal organizations. The Centre has developed focused postal programmes to deliver high-value training, in order to cater to the training needs of companies associated with posts and postal business.”

“Emirates Post’s Training & Development Centre has made swift progress in a very short period. It has put in place a sound infrastructure, complete with state of the art equipment and competent trainers specialized not only in postal matters but other aspects of successful business operations. We would like to complement Emirates Post for pioneering this unique initiative which reflects its vision to emerge as one of the leading postal corporations in the world. The setting up of the Training and Development Centre is yet another initiative of Emirates Post that demonstrates its strategy to diversify into new business streams to bring in new revenues,” H.E. Al Tayer added.

Mr. Abdulla Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post, said: “It is a matter of great pride for Emirates Post to unveil this advanced training facility designed to meet the training needs of all posts-related organizations. The Training and Development Centre is dedicated to developing training courses that help employees deliver optimum performance at all levels. It is driven by a mission to provide crucial support to the development of human resources.”

“The Training and Development Centre is driven by the understanding that modern businesses bank on human skills to attain success. This is all the more important in the postal field as the traditional concept of posts is being replaced by new innovations. As new strategies evolve, workers in postal business need to implement modern techniques in order to keep pace with changing business processes. We believe the Training and Development Centre of Emirates Post is fully geared to handle this challenge,” Mr. Al Daboos added.

The Training and Development Centre provides three distinct types of training. Under the first category, inhouse trainers design and produce programmes for Emirates Post staff, including monthly orientation courses for new employees. Under the second category, the Centre sends Emirates Post employees for training at selected training institutes for receiving training in courses in specialized fields. Thirdly, the Centre partners with reputed training companies to develop customized courses to be delivered at the premises of the Centre.

“Our main focus is on creating training programmes based on the actual needs of employees, in consultation with the management,” said Ms. Wiaam Shihab Ghanem, Manager, Training & Development Centre. “The Centre runs competency-based programs and our methodology is focused on ‘Edutainment’ to strike the right balance between education and entertainment, and thus create an ideal environment to change mindsets and specific behaviours.”

“Having made significant progress during 2003, the Training & Development Centre is fully geared for greater achievements during 2004. We have finalized Phase One of the project for reengineering the Performance Management System.  Further, we have presented the Executive committee with a total Emiratization plan in keeping with the National objectives of increasing the percentage of UAE nationals. Finally, our strategic objective is to serve as a high-quality training hub for other postal companies in the region, through high-quality staff development consultancy and training solutions,” Ms. Ghanem added.
