Emarat introduced to its staff the importance of assertiveness at work and beyond by allowing them to attend a two-day workshop that equipped them with the knowledge that helps them identify and approach challenging situations more assertively. In total, 25 Emarat staff members attended the workshop, which focused both on the philosophy of assertiveness and its related techniques.
Dr. Mohammed Bu Qufell, Manager Career Development at Emarat, indicated that the workshop introduced participants to the philosophy of assertiveness, and educated them on a variety of assertiveness techniques for them to apply in their work and daily life.
At the workshop, participants were told how to identify situations where they behave unassertively and plan a better assertive response for each situation. The workshop was highly interactive and required role-playing in a supportive and constructive setting.
According to Dr. Bu Qufell, Emarat employees have gained through this training an understanding of how to approach challenging situations assertively, learn appropriate assertive techniques to use with difficult people or situations, and improve communication skills within a team-work environment.
The first day of the workshop focused on behavioral pay offs and disadvantages, understanding negative thinking and beliefs, assertiveness rights, setting individual agendas, positive outcomes and shouldering responsibility, body language in theory and role-plays, and "Saying No".
Day three introduced participants to ways of dealing with aggressiveness, responding to criticism and criticizing others.
The program has been supervised by Mr. Ali Ghanim, Training Officer.
