Umm Al Quwain - May 16, 2007: The bid for the 16 million gallon water desalination plant being built by IMDAD has been closed with eight international companies participating in the bidding.
The bid closed on April 30, 2007 and the tenders' evaluation is expected to be completed within 6 weeks while another tender for the Transmission and Distribution Network for a capacity of 35 million gallons per day, will be floated by the end of June 2007.
IMDAD, a joint venture between the government of Umm Al Quwain and the Saudi based Al Rajhi Investment Group, was established in August 2006 as an initiative spearheaded by the Deputy Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Rashid Al Mualla, to produce, deliver and distribute water in Umm Al Quwain to the and the other Emirates.
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Rashid Al Mualla, the Deputy Ruler of Umm Al Quwain and the Chairman of Imdad, established the company to ensure that the tremendous growth and development in the Emirate is backed by the efficient infrastructure required to support such development.
The company was formed mainly to desalinate seawater into potable water complying with the national and international specifications for consumers. The company has already completed a full Environmental Impact Assessment study for the establishment of a seawater desalination plant and transmission and distribution network in Umm Al Quwain to ensure that all of its operations meet the highest ecological and environmental standards.
General Manager of IMDAD, Dr. Ala Al Khzaie said that "We would like to assure our consumers that the availability of potable water will always meet their demands. Although, we are well advanced into the establishment and running of this groundbreaking venture in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, we still have a long way to go".
