First ever offsite E-safe system in the Middle East
Dubai, May 25, 2003: Dubai Bank has become the first bank in the region to launch a fully automated state-of-the-art safe deposit locker facility - ‘Tijori’ - that can be accessed 24-hours a day, 7 days a week.
Tijori also features a unique biometric security system, which requires customers to register their palm impression so that they can validate their identity when using the service.
Speaking at a press conference to mark the launch, Mr. Ahmed Bin Brek, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Bank, said: “Tijori ensures the highest levels of security, convenience, and privacy. Its launch illustrates the bank’s commitment to devising innovative products and services that continue to set new standards in a highly competitive banking industry. Technology is a key enabler and the new service illustrates our commitment to driving business and developing exceptional, new customer-centric products and services.”
Located at Hall 1 of the Dubai World Trade Centre, the safe house facility comprises four frosted-glass cubicles that offer complete privacy. Before using the services, customers are required to go through a speedy biometric process—an automated method of recognizing a person based on a physiological feature, in this case a palm impression—to register their identity.
Explaining the high level of security provision, Ms. Latifa Fikree, Vice President of Distribution at Dubai Bank, said: “As the level of security breaches and transaction fraud increases, the need to protect customers by way of highly secure identification and personal verification technologies is increasingly relevant. Registration takes just five minutes and the facility is open to all UAE residents.”
Having registered the palm impression, the safe house administrator will ask the customer to use a card with a magnetic strip of his or her choice (their ATM or credit card). This card will also be used to validate the identity of the customer. The administrator will then enter the customer data and card information, together with the palm impression, into the system, after which the customer will be assigned a key for his or her security deposit box.
The customer can then gain access to the facility by swiping his or her card to enter the cubicle. Once inside, the customer validates the palm impression, after which he or she swipes the card again in front of the locker system and enters the PIN code to confirm the transaction. The customer can then operate the interactive touch screen to deposit or withdraw valuables from the safe deposit box.
Other best-in-class security features protect valuables as well as the safety of the depositor. Security cameras have been strategically placed at the facility to give the depositor an all-round view of the facility inside and outside the cubicle. Tijori also has an alerting facility, which is activated should any security feature be breached. Any alert is then automatically logged and recorded.
Commenting on the launch Mr. Ricky Madan, Vice President said: “Consumer research has revealed the need for a 24-hour safety locker system. By combining the latest technology and security systems, Dubai Bank has responded to this need by offering its customers the most advanced, secure, and convenient safety deposit box system in the Middle East.”
Dubai Bank has partnered with security equipment specialists Comexter to provide cutting edge banking technology. Tijori is extremely user-friendly and will help Dubai Bank meet the needs of a new generation of banking customers that demand quick, fast, and flexible banking services,” concluded Mr. Madan.
