The bank announces a Staff Green Day and Tree Planting activity at Dukhan, Doha

Dubai, December 27, 2009: Doha Bank, one of the largest private commercial banks in Qatar, announced its first Staff Green Day at the Doha Bank branch in Dukhan, Doha along with a Tree Planting activity held on December, 26 2009. The theme was "Promote eco-consciousness through Green Banking" to further instill the green culture within the organization by encouraging participation from all employees to act as environmental advocates for the green cause.      

The event was organized to support Doha Bank's primary objective on its drive towards a clean and green environment and to create awareness on staff's social and environmental responsibility. The staff was dressed in Go Green T-shirts and caps, under the leadership of the Green Banking Task Force Committee and Planet Savers Club, proactively showed support to the programme and planted trees at the Dukhan Branch site.

As a part of the Go Green festivities to launch the first Doha Bank Staff Green Day, an in-house green competition was held to adjudge the Best Green Banking Slogan, Best Green Banking Logo and Best Green Banking Poster. The winning entries for each of these categories will be displayed on Doha Bank Green Bank website portal www.dohagreenbank.com and the green-themed business cards.

Furthermore, Doha Bank has also arranged to select and award the Best Green Branch to one of its branches where the most number of new green accounts are opened which promote the concept of paperless banking. In addition, Doha Bank also distributed small plants to each and every staff to increase environmental awareness.

The Bank's internal efforts are relayed to the community through the introduction of complete green banking suite to its customers by bringing in Green Accounts, Green Credit Card, Online Banking services, E-Statements and even launched an online shopping platform called Doha Sooq. Doha Bank ATMs always remind customers of saving trees by reducing the use of paper and a dedicated Doha Green Bank website to keep customers abreast of recent green initiatives.

Commenting on the Go Green initiatives, Mr. R. Seetharaman, CEO, Doha Bank, said, "With such a drive, propagating

 the green culture within Doha Bank has shown a significant shift on the staff's mindset to promote and support the Bank's vision and diverse portfolio. The activities take into account the environmental and social responsibility with the aim to reduce the harmful effects and carbon footprint in the environment."

"Doha Bank, as a forward-thinking and socially responsible bank has undertaken groundbreaking initiatives to make its products and processes more efficient. Eco-consciousness was integrated into Doha Bank's daily operations by taking energy efficient measures as the main responsibility for finding solutions to climate change," he added.

Mr. Louis Scotto, Head of Retail Banking said "A significant reduction in energy and waste were observed after implementation of Doha Bank's Green Policy and with such considerations on product design and strategies to promote the Bank's environmental cause."

Doha Bank was awarded the Best Green Bank award in 2008 in Middle East by the Banker Magazine. In 2009, was awarded the 'Best Public Awareness Campaign Green Award' by Qatar Today. Doha Bank was also recognized by the Green Qatar Centre for its proactive participation in the national campaign for clean and green Qatar.

Mr. R. Seetharaman encouraged greater support from staff in joining hands to make a lasting positive impact on the environment and stressed the need to be responsible citizens, take leadership in help saving the environment and be driven by green values in conducting Banking activities.
