Deal incorporates Japanese market into DHL's global network

Manama, November 29, 2004: DHL Global Mail, the leading international mail services company, has consolidated its market leading position in the Asia market with today's announcement of an exclusive agreement with Yamato Transport Co, Ltd, Japan's top door-to-door mail and parcel delivery business.

The partnership effectively opens up access for Japanese customers to a top class international mail delivery service. Users from outside the country share the benefit in reverse since they will be able to take advantage of the integrated international service to send post to Japan.

This latest agreement follows close on the heels of the logistics solutions leader's announcement in Singapore just days ago that DHL Express had acquired a 128 million 68 per cent majority holding in Blue Dart, India's premium domestic courier and integrated air express package distribution company.

Earlier, DHL had announced a commitment of more than 180 million in China as it rolled out its strategy of reaching out throughout the Asia-Pacific region. DHL has rapidly become the only global air express company to have comprehensive domestic and international express services in two of the fastest growing economies in the region - China and India.

The deal with Yamato further strengthens its hand in the region and makes it the dominant force. DHL Global Mail expects to capitalise on the domestic strengths of Yamato Transport, which has enjoyed rapid growth servicing major publishers and catalogue companies.

Yamato Transport launched its Kuroneko Mail postal service nationwide only in March 1997. Yet, it now delivers 100 million Kuroneko Mail items a month in Japan, in addition to its domestic courier service.
