DUBAI, Sept. 11, 2007 - Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) celebrated 100 days of operating its Dubai to Atlanta route by rewarding the hundredth passenger to check-in - Jeremy Pe?a from Baton Rouge, Louisiana - with an upgrade to BusinessElite and a commemorative gift.
Delta is the only US airline to operate non-stop service between the United Arab Emirates and the United States with five weekly services from Dubai. Delta inaugurated its Dubai - Atlanta service at the beginning of June 2007 and flies five return flights per week. The route employs Boeing 777-200ER aircraft seating up to 268 passengers with 50 seats in BusinessElite. Top destinations for Delta's Dubai passengers include: Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Orlando and Los Angeles. There are over 500 US companies registered in Dubai and more than 26,000 US citizens living in the UAE.
Manoj Kuriakose, Delta's Commercial Manager for the U.A.E. commented: "We are extremely pleased with the performance of the Dubai to Atlanta flight, which is already running with an average load factor of around 75 per cent, indicating that we made the right decision to return to the Dubai market. Delta is the only U.S. carrier to operate service from the U.A.E. and the route unites two important travel hubs. Passengers flying from Dubai to Atlanta have a choice of over 190 onward destinations all over the American continent - more than via other international U.S. gateways. Equally those flying from the US to Dubai have an unparalleled number of onward destinations in the Middle East, CIS, Asia and the Far East."
Danita Waterfall-Brizzi, Delta's regional director for Cargo in Europe the Middle East and Africa commented: "Cargo was a very important consideration for Delta in starting this service, thanks to Dubai's geographic location making it an ideal Middle Eastern hub for freight. We have seen a very strong demand from freight shippers and cargo forwarders, with top destinations for shipments including Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York and Miami."
Delta's award-winning BusinessElite service features all-leather sleeper seats with 152 cm of legroom, innovative food offerings and award-winning, original wine selections chosen by celebrity chef Michelle Bernstein. The airline's industry-leading, on-demand personal in-seat entertainment boasts more than 20 first-run and popular classic movies, a variety of TV programs, a broad range of music, and a suite of 12 video games. Economy class customers also benefit from new all-leather economy seats, amenity kits and enhanced food offerings.
