United Arab Emirates, Sharjah – Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA), a world-class performing arts powerhouse offers students enriching and immersive learning experiences during their study. Hear from the programme leader behind their Trinity Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance.

Alex Jessop, Programme Leader of the Trinity Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy reveals how special and unique SPAA really is, particularly when it comes to dance, as it is the only professional dance academy which offers the Trinity Level 6 Diploma in Professional Dance outside of the UK. He goes on to highlight that the academy has an extremely diverse faculty, with teachers from around the world offering an array of international professional dance experiences. Many of the dance teachers at SPAA also are operating as professional dancers within  the UAE, offering students  a unique insight into the region.

Jessop provides an overview of the programme itself and what makes it such a distinctive destination for dance. He states that the three year programme allows students to become extremely versatile, highly skilled, professional dance artists, who possess creativity and technical proficiency. The programme equips dancers with the skills they need for their physical ability, as well as instilling professional integrity and etiquette.  Alex goes on to explain that following graduation from the programme, the academy hopes that students will explore a wide range of careers, as the opportunity for dancers are truly endless, spanning the entire world.

Alex highlights that some students go on to work within professional dance companies, whereas others may explore careers in choreography or undertake commercial work within the events sector, the travel industry and much more. Alternatively, students may choose to go on to become teaching artists and opt for a career in educating the next generation of performing artists. Alex reveals that SPAA’s teachings are very practical, with many lessons being studio based. However, there are also contextual discussions and workshops which explore the anatomy, nutrition, historical choreographers, how to market and represent yourself and how to make your space in the industry in the digital age.

With applications now open, please see Alex Jessop’s full interview, along with more details about the diploma itself here.
