Dubai: 11 November, 2008 - BioTiqania Advanced Training Institute, a spin-off initiative of the Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech), providing world class training in scientific and industrial disciplines, today announced more than 100 laboratory professionals have so far received advanced training in safety concepts through its exclusive Applied Laboratory Safety Programme.

Designed to deliver updated courses on laboratory safety for professionals, the programme seeks to raise safety standards and enhance awareness of the research and development industry in various sectors such as health and pharmaceuticals, particularly those based in DuBiotech, a member of TECOM Investments.

In collaboration with the Continuing Education Department of Dubai Health Authority (DHA), BioTiqania Advanced Training Institute conducted the Applied Laboratory Safety Programme in four two-day sessions for the staff members working in the DHA laboratories.

Dr Fares Khairallah, Acting Director of BioTiqania, said: "The Applied Laboratory Safety Programme received outstanding feedback from the participants. This did not come as a surprise considering the advanced technical content as well as the comprehensive interactive nature of the sessions that significantly benefited the participants."

The programme was delivered by Maharshi Mehta, a trainer with 17 years of experience as a health and safety professional with petrochemical and construction companies, as well as regulatory agencies.

The Laboratory Safety program is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). It is offered exclusively by BioTiqania in collaboration with the US-based Center for Professional Advancement (CfPA), an international leader in technical training since 1967 CfPA offers over 450 courses in 19 applied industrial technologies.

Accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), the BioTiqania initiative was launched to upgrade the skills of professionals in the scientific and industrial sectors and help them attain technical skills to augment their professional experience. BioTiqania provides year-round certification programmes and continuing education courses in various formats, including on site, public and client sites, as well as interactive online training, and customised course programmes based on clients' specific needs.

BioTiqania also conducted a four-day workshop on Leadership Skills for CEOs in healthcare in October as part of its ongoing training agenda. BioTiqania held the workshop in collaboration with the American College for Physician Executives (ACPE). Kevin O'Connor, who specialises in educating and coaching team leaders and trainers, conducted the workshop. An accomplished author of five books, his latest work is titled 'Present Like A Pro: A Field Guide to Mastering the Art of Business, Professional, and Public Speaking'.

Commenting on the course, Dr Hani Swidan, Regional Director of Maktoum Hospital, said: "O'Connor successfully engaged the entire audience with his incisive industry experience. The case studies presented by him provided valuable guidance to participants in an interactive setting."

Dr Jamila Mohamed Al Shaikh, Health Centre Manager at the Rashidya Health Center, said: "With his mentoring skills, the specialist trainer brought fresh perspectives on leadership techniques in the current context of a highly competitive global business landscape. The course content was highly topical and provided insights on ways to achieve an optimum work-life balance."
