• Obtaining the ISO Integrated Quality System opens up opportunities for exchanging experiences with similar institutions: Dr. Mohamed Omara
  • Baheya access international certifications proving the world-class service quality the staff provides: Engineer Othman Mohamed Othman

Cairo: Baheya Institution, for early detection and treatment of breast cancer, received three ISO certifications for management, environment, occupational health and safety. Baheya received the ISO 9001 for a quality management system, the ISO 14001 for environmental management, and the ISO 45001for occupational health and safety management systems. The certifications were granted by Engineer Othman Mohamed Othman, Chairman of the Near East Services Company (NES), which represents the European Certification Authority (EuroCert) – the body responsible for awarding certificates of conformity with International Standards in Management Systems (ISO) in Egypt and Europe.

A certification ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Fahmy, a member of the Baheya Institution Board of Directors, Ms. Laila Salem, a member of the Board of Directors, Dr. Mohamed Omara, Executive Director of the Baheya Hospital, Ms. Amina Othman, a member of the Board of Directors of NES, and Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Abdo, Director of Business Development and Training at NES.

Baheya's obtainment of the ISO 9001 certification comes as a result of its commitment to observing quality standards in management, which is evident in Baheya’s patients’ satisfaction with its services. The institution has also shown effective leadership with the involvement of workers in decision-making, continuous improvement in decision-making processes, and reliance on scientific methodologies in administrative processes and achieving mutual benefit for its partners.

The European Certification Authority (EuroCert) also granted Baheya institution the ISO 45001:2018 Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Management System for ensuring healthy and safe workplaces by providing an integrated system for the prevention of work injuries. The ISO 45001 is based on measuring ten main factors in any organization, including: understanding the challenges of occupational health and safety within the organization, the risks inherent in its field of work, determining how to deal with these risks, being prepared for emergencies, and the administration's continuous monitoring, analysis and internal auditing processes.

Baheya has obtained the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certificate, which highlights the importance of implementing all operational processes taking into account environmental impacts, and minimizing negative impacts at all stages of operation.

Mrs. Laila Salem, Baheya Institution board of directors member and Baheya’s granddaughter, said: “Since launching Baheya Hospital, our dream has been to provide healthcare services for women with breast cancer on international standards. My grandmother’s illness and treatment experience abroad has always motivated us to realize this dream.

Breast cancer cases in Egypt have reached 25,000 cases annually but about 98% of these cases can be cured if detected early. Therefore, we at Baheya Foundation were keen on providing early detection at the highest standards. Today, we obtained three certificates confirming we have successfully been doing that.”

Dr. Mohamed Omara, Executive Director of Baheya Hospital, said that obtaining an ISO certificate in a number of fields gives Baheya a global dimension, which opens the way for opportunities for rapprochement and partnerships with similar institutions in the same field of work globally, which, eventually, falls to benefit the institution in Egypt.

He added: “ The ISO Certification also gives us the opportunity to make optimal use of our financial and human resources. Obtaining the ISO is only a step as it means we have to do more effort to improve the hospital's administrative system, and to make the right decisions for the health and safety of employees and patients.”

For his part, Engineer Othman Mohamed Othman, Chairman of the Near East Services Company (NES), which represents the European Certification Authority (EuroCert), said: “The medical and administrative staff at Baheya Hospital have received distinguished training from the NES-Euro Cert Foundation in all the requirements of the three specifications of quality. The training was conducted by senior management experts across different functions, which enabled Baheya staff to access international certifications proving the world-class service quality the staff provides.”
