Dubai - In this particular day and age, the importance of certification - indeed in the health care industry - has gained increasing importance; especially since employers are utilizing it as a means for assessing whether individuals possess the necessary skill set and knowledge to perform their designated duties and functions. This is coupled with the pursuit of health care establishments to hire only the most qualified and competent candidates that are capable of demonstrating a positive contribution to quality patient care.

From the perspective of candidates, certification validates the health professional's fulfilment of a set of defined standards and criteria, as set by an independent and acclaimed third party. It demonstrates the commitment of that individual to delivering quality services on a continuous basis; and generally avails better pay and benefits to its respective holders.

For those reasons and for the purpose of advancing the allied health sector in the Middle East and North Africa region, Medogy - based in Dubai - has recently partnered with American Medical Technologists (AMT) - an acclaimed certification agency both in the USA and internationally. The partnerships seeks to enhance the sector's professional competency in various specialized disciplines and positions, such as medical technologist, medical laboratory technician, phlebotomy technician, dental assistant and allied health instructor - among others .

AMT is one of only a handful of organizations to be accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and caters to a variety of allied health areas including laboratory, medical and dental office and health education - among others.

According to Christopher Damon - Executive Director, AMT - "AMT currently commands more than 60,000 certified members, and continuously seeks to enhance and develop its certification programs in various disciplines; while providing continuing education, benefits and other services to its patrons."

AMT certification examinations are formulated in accordance with industry standards and are developed by a committee of experts in the respective fields. The tests are utilized in conjunction with a series of other indicators - such as training and experience - to provide candidates with the sought certification.

Mr. Issam Marzouqa - CEO, Medogy - also highlighted another aspect pertaining to the rising significance of certification in the health care industry, stating that "Various laws and regulations in the MENA region and around the world are currently necessitating the acquisition of professional certification by health care professionals, for the purpose of verifying the capabilities and aptitude of sector workers. We are satisfied that our partnership with AMT is a step in the right direction towards enhancing the quality of specialized care provided by the health care industry in the region."
