7th February 2011 (Dubai, UAE): With the introduction in the UAE of new requirements for accredited continuous medical education (CME) for nurses, the American Hospital Dubai has responded by introducing K2 Medical Systems (K2) training programs for its nursing staff, in association with Dubai-based agents for K2 in the MENA region, T2 LLC. This is the first time that K2 training programs have been run in Dubai. The hospital's launch training event was the four-day Fetal Monitoring Training Program, which was attended by 13 nurses from the hospital's Fetal and Maternal Medicine Center.

K2 Medical Systems provides training services to around 90 per cent of the UK's hospitals and is an acknowledged leader in its field, bringing together midwives, doctors and technologists to improve maternity care for clinicians, mothers and their babies. The computer based training system can be accessed over the internet, anywhere, anytime, from within the hospital or from home, adding extra convenience for individual nurses, and has become the de facto standard for teaching in the UK.

The training program uses real patient cases, so that abnormal fetal cases can be presented and understood and managed in the labour ward. There is a comprehensive database of over a thousand cases with normal CTG patterns with normal and very abnormal outcomes, and each case is reviewed with the nurse by three independent experts and the actual clinical outcome. Ten cases are provided initially and every 6 months an additional 5 cases are shared so that over a period of time, nurses can compile a significant database of interesting cases.

Mr. Thomas Murray, CEO of American Hospital  said: "The quality of our staff is what has ensured the continued success of the hospital for more than 10 years and it is the people that make the real difference. We are delighted to introduce this training innovation in Dubai and the response from nurses attending the session was extremely positive and enthusiastic. This is just the start of the training process and our commitment is to meet and exceed the demands of the continuous medical education requirements for the UAE. Our nursing training program continues in November with other world class programs from leading training providers in the field."

There are currently over 25,000 registered clinicians using the K2 Medical Systems package from the most junior to the most experienced. It has been rigorously tested in clinical trials and has been shown to improve core knowledge for all grades of doctors and midwives.

K2 MEDICAL SYSTEMS
K2 Medical Systems came into being in August 1999 when the University of Plymouth and Plymouth Hospital's NHS Trust transferred ownership of all IPR generated by the Perinatal Research Group into the company in return for a small shareholding. The work then commenced to convert the research into real products that could be sold. We had to learn how to market and sell them, and to run a business that generated enough money to sustain the required personnel.
