Dubai - 22nd, September, 2004 Aggreko plc global leader in providing temporary power generation and temperature control services today announced a contract to supply a 5MW power package for the RMC Topmix temporary concrete batching plant located in the Al Quasis Industrial Area.
The batching plant caters exclusively to the requirements of the $4.1 billion Dubai International Airport (DIA) expansion project, United Arab Emirates. Currently the worlds busiest, the batching plant runs 24 hours a day producing 700 cum/H of concrete per hour.
To guarantee an uninterrupted power supply and operate the plant continuously, the package installed by Aggreko consisted of a 4MW synchronised generator package with built in redundancy. An additional 1MW power package was installed to operate a smaller batching plant located on the same site.
"With 700 cum/H of concrete to be produced per hour we can't afford any down time in production and a secure and reliable power supply is critical for continuous operation" explains Gerard Boulommier, project manager, RMC Topmix".
"For an operation such as ours, where the machines have to run 24 hours a day and 365 days a year - reliability is what matters. We chose the option to rent power generation equipment from Aggreko rather than buy because of the 24 hour technical support and maintenance that is offered with the equipment giving us the added security of knowing that a continuous power supply was guaranteed" Boulommier adds.
The $4.1 billion Dubai Airport expansion includes the construction of a new terminal in place of the existing Terminal 2, Concourse 2 and 3, Terminal 3 (underground), Dubai Flower Centre and Cargo Mega Terminal.
