Take in Burj views from City Walk
Over the last few years, City Walk has developed into the complete package, bursting with cool eateries and cafs, trendy retail stores and even Roxy Cinemas (should you impulsively want to catch a movie). Check out Cocoa Kitchen, a restaurant that serves every dish (even savoury ones) with a hint of cocoa or tuck into a 'frozen hot chocolate' from New York chain Serendipity. If you're a nature-lover, The Green Planet, Dubai's indoor tropical forest, is brimming with birds, exotic insects and mammals, making it a must-visit. Most importantly, walk through the European-style streets and take in the view of the Burj Khalifa that towers above.
The Dubai Mall is pretty much a one-stop-shop for everything your heart desires. If you're looking for a spot of nature, there's the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo that will have you face-to-face with cute otters or 'King Croc'. You can skate on an Olympic-sized ice skating rink, print 3D candies at Candilicious or catch a movie. But if you're itching to go outdoors, simply grab a seat at any of the restaurants or coffee shops overlooking the Dubai Fountain, which has daily shows every 30 minutes from 6pm-11pm. Not in the mood to eat? You can also get a pretty great view of the fountain from the Apple store within the mall.
Enjoy sunsets at Kite Beach
Enjoy views of the Burj Al Arab in the background as you soak in the sun at the aptly-named Kite Beach. A much-loved spot for water activities as well as kite surfing, Kite Beach is constantly abuzz with folks looking to either stay fit or enjoy some downtime. Kids are sure to enjoy Wire World Adventure Park, an elevated obstacle course, while adults can make the most of the running track located along the beach. After all that exercise, treat yourself to juicy sliders from food truck sensation Salt or healthy banana-based desserts place Wanna Banana.
Sample haute fashion at Dubai Design District
Dubai Design District, or d3, has undoubtedly evolved into a hangout spot for UAE's most haute and trendy residents. It is the location of Fashion Forward Dubai, one of the most widely-anticipated fashion exhibitions in the region, and is always hosting some event or the other. Browse through fashionable stores such as The cARTel or check out any of the stylish eateries such as Harper's Bazaar Caf or Tossed. Finally, if you're looking for a makeover, Blowout&Go or N.Bar are there to meet your needs.
Walk around The Walk at JBR
If you're looking to lounge by a beach, while also being surrounded by skyscrapers, restaurants and a wealth of activities, Jumeirah Beach Residence is the place to go. Choose between a wide variety of exotic teas at Leopold's of London or custom-make your burger at Gourmet Burger Kitchen. Fitness enthusiasts can enjoy water sports facilities as well as the outdoor Muscle Beach operated by The Warehouse Gym. As for shopaholics, you can take your pick of stores selling everything from trendy clothes to handmade products.
Dine under the stars with food trucks
Food trucks have been all the rage of late. Case in point: Last Exit, which offers a diverse variety of eats in a relaxed setting - especially if one is driving from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. Also on the list to watch out for is TruckersDXB (pictured) which will now be launching outdoors again, after their recent Summer Warehouse festival. Their first event of the season will take place at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club on October 7, from 4pm-11pm. The event will feature music, good food and even a fun area for kids. Entry is free for all, so be sure to check it out.
Immerse yourself in culture at Alserkal Avenue
A few years ago, no one could have possibly guessed that an industrial compound with warehouses would become one of Dubai's most happening cultural districts. But, it has. Located in Al Quoz, Alserkal Avenue houses numerous art galleries, design studios and a performing arts space. Whether you're thinking of catching a show or concert, or signing up for a workshop or a guided tour of exhibitions, it's all possible here - and many of these activities are absolutely free. What better way to be a part of the local arts scene?
Have a relaxed meal at The Palm Jumeirah
The last few years has seen the palm-shaped island develop quickly into 'the place to be seen at'. Just a few weeks ago, it played host to the Casa Playa beach festival, a two-day extravaganza, at Nasimi Beach, Atlantis, and we're sure to see many more festivals get underway as the weather cools further. There's also Club Vista Mare, a stretch of seven beach-side licensed restaurants - including Tap House, which offers American comfort food and Japanese- Peruvian restaurant Aji. The best part is that it's all affordable and oh-so-chic.
Take an abra across Dubai Creek
A favourite for residents as well as tourists, few places showcase the essence of Dubai quite like Dubai Creek. If you're looking for a fun day out, stroll through the Spice Souk, where you'll find numerous vendors selling their colourful wares and tourists mingling with residents. The Gold Souk, located nearby, is also a must-visit (tip: be sure to stop by the Malabar Gold & Diamonds store while you're there to gaze at its 18-carat gold replica of the Burj Khalifa). Finally, take an abra across to the textile souk. Gorgeous views await you for a minimal price.
Have a glowing time at Zabeel Park
A great option if you're looking to be one with nature, this sprawling 117-acre park truly comes alive during the cooler months, with loads of activities for families and fitness enthusiasts. Beginning October 13, Ripe Market will start once again, and you can get your fill of organic fruits and veggies there, while browsing through handmade products from talented Dubai residents, every Friday, from 9am-4pm. Also, don't miss Dubai Garden Glow, a unique theme park, that will delight adults and youngsters alike. Whether it's life-like dinosaurs or a glowing fairy garden, you'll find them all here.
