A new rapid PCR testing facility has been in place for passengers at the Dubai International Airport (DXB), but it’s accessible only to select flights or destinations, Dubai Airports said on Sunday.

“Dubai Airports can confirm that rapid PCR testing is currently not available at DXB for all travellers. The provision is in place, but only accessible for travellers to a limited number of countries that specifically require additional testing,” the authority said on Twitter.

Dubai Airports also noted that passengers who want to get fast PCR test results will be required to provide proof of their destination.

“Travellers are requested to only use this facility if specified by their final destination, and not consider it as an option for general PCR testing,” the authority said, with elaborating which passengers can benefit from the testing facility.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, was earlier quoted by media reports as saying that they are setting up a facility near Terminal 2 to process PCR tests. Results are said to be available in three to four hours.

PCR test results are normally released after approximately 12 hours. Passengers travelling from Dubai can take PCR tests from at least 27 accredited facilities and clinics across the emirate.

The Department of Health Authority also has drive-through screening centres across all emirates.
