TUNIS - Some 600,000 dinars have just been released kick-start the development of a cultural and tourist circuit in El-Kef ancient Medina, out of the planned total investment of 9 million dinars (MTD).

This project, co-funded by both the Tourism and Culture Ministries, was greenlighted on Tuesday in a joint working session.

Tourism Minister Mehdi Houas and Culture Minister Ezzedine Bachaouch voiced will to give cultural tourism in El Kef region a concrete shape, in such a way as to promote it as part of an effective and sustainable development dynamic.

Beyond valorising a heritage which has so long been marginalised, carrying out of this project, which is to generate hundreds of jobs, will result in a new vitality in the development of tourism, particularly through increasing the hosting capacity, catering and leisure activities.

The concerned zones are the localities of Sidi Hassine, Dar El Kahia, El Kasbah, the Temple of Waters, the Sidi Boumaklouf historical complex, the Basilica, the main thermal baths, the synagogue and the Medina Souks.
