Senior health officials have reiterated that Bahrain does not need a nationwide curfew at the moment.

Health Ministry Under-Secretary Dr Waleed Al Manea along with National Taskforce for Combating Coronavirus (Covid-19) Monitoring Committee head Lieutenant Colonel Dr Manaf Al Qahtani said last night that a ban on public gatherings, if followed properly, would be sufficient to curb the spread of the virus.

“At the current stage we prefer not to have a curfew, as we don’t need it,” said Dr Al Qahtani.

“A ban on gatherings is effective enough, which must be followed.

“A curfew will not be implemented until the time is right and we might need it.”

Dr Al Manea added that a curfew was a stricter measure and would be enforced when needed.

“But looking at the current situation, limiting gathering is more important and is enough for Bahrain at the moment,” he said.
