UAE - Establishments conducting surveys without obtaining prior authorisation from the Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC) risk incurring penalties and fines.

This was announced by Mohamad Al Mualla, Director of the Surveys and Statistical Frames Department at the DSC.

The Dubai Statistics Centre revealed that only 11 facilities are authorised to carry out questionnaires in Dubai.

Al Mualla added that these facilities have been given permits after meeting the legal, administrativeand technical requirements as stipulated by the Dubai Executive Council no (39) of 2015, as well as administrative decision No (96) of 2016, issued by the Executive Director of the DSC.

Al Mualla pointed out that the control team at the Survey Studies Section oversees entities carrying out surveys.

"All entities should verify the legality of the facility conducting such surveys on their behalf," he highlighted.

Regulating such an activity in the emirate is aimed at ensuring the implementation of surveys more accurately and properly.

Such requirements provide a legal shield to the personal information and data collected by surveyors.

Conducting surveys in favour of others without permission, or using the outcomes of the survey to offend the country and its achievements in any way whatsoever, or divulging the confidential information of persons surveyed, are all prohibited.

Conducting, modifying or changing the results of a survey in a way other than reality is also deemed illegal.

It is also illegal to hire an unlicensed person to do a field survey, or do the survey at places where it is not permitted.
