Anyone who defaces a Bahraini passport would be fined BD50 to BD400 under an amendment to the 1975 Passports Law, which will be debated by parliament on Tuesday.
The amendment has been presented by the Interior Ministry and is supported by parliament’s foreign affairs, defence and national security committee.
Scribbling, writing, colouring, tearing, sticking or stamping on a passport would be considered a crime.
MPs will also vote on amendments to the 1975 Government Employees Wages and Allowances Law, which would provide pension benefits to employees working on temporary contracts.
It has been presented by the Pension Fund Authority (PFA).
Parliament is also expected to reject DNA testing proposed by the National Consensus Bloc, after the Kuwaiti Constitutional Court ruled similar legislation there was unconstitutional.
However, people who trespass or conduct surveillance on a property, homes, buildings or government and municipal facilities without permission from its owner or authorisation would be jailed up to six months and fined up to BD50 under amendments proposed by MPs to the 1976 Penal Code, which will be debated during parliament’s session.
Should it happen at night, by force, or through impersonation or fraud, using weapons, photographic or broadcasting equipment, then the maximum punishment would rise to two years in jail – and double if it is a government or municipal facility.
