Restaurants and hotels in Dubai can only serve alcohol to patrons at tables, Khaleej Times can reveal. Effective June 24 "until further notice", serving alcohol at bar counters has been banned.

The Dubai Police have sent a notification to this effect to resto-bar operators. A reason for the move was not specified in the notification. Sources said the decision came after it was noticed that social distancing was not being maintained near alcohol counters and pool bars.
When contacted, Dubai Tourism confirmed that a statement clarifying the move will be issued "shortly".

F&B outlets with a restaurant trade licence confirmed receiving the notification.
