AMMAN — The Traffic Department on Monday announced a decrease in traffic accidents during the period from July 14 to July 20, in which the Public Security Department implemented a campaign targeting mobile phone use by drivers, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The number of accidents dropped by 48.4 per cent, according to the official study, noting that the current period recorded 112 accidents compared with 217 accidents during the same period in 2017. Meanwhile, the injuries decreased from 350 to 97, marking a 72.3 per cent, while deaths also decreased from 17 to five, marking 70.6 per cent drop.

The study concluded that using the phone while driving is linked to increased traffic accidents.
