Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik hosted an official luncheon at Al Alam Palace in honour of Phillippe Leopold Louis Marie, King of the Belgians, on the occasion of his visit to Oman on Thursday.

Prior to the luncheon, His Majesty the Sultan conferred the Oman Civil Order, 1st Class, on King Phillippe as His Majesty the Sultan’s appreciation for the king and the deep bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.

Exchange of commemorative gifts

His Majesty the Sultan and the King of the Belgians exchanged commemorative gifts in presence of the Honourable Lady and Mathilde Marie Christine Ghislaine d’Udekem d’Acoz, Queen of the Belgians.

His Majesty the Sultan presented King Phillippe an Omani sword, while the King of the Belgians presented His Majesty the Sultan a piece of art representing Belgian cultural heritage.

The luncheon was attended by members of the Royal Family, chairmen of the State Council and Shura Council, ministers and senior officers of the Sultan’s Armed Forces and Oman Royal Police.

Official talks

Earlier on Thursday, His Majesty the Sultan and King Phillippe held an official session of talks at Al Alam Palace.

The talks reviewed the good relations binding the sultanate and Belgium. The talks also touched on the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in various spheres which serve the interest of the Omani and Belgian friendly peoples. They also exchanged views on several matters of common interest.

The talks session was attended from the Belgian side by Queen Mathilde, Sophie Wilmès, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tinne Van der Straeten, Minister of Energy, Pol De Witte, Secretary General of the Household of the King of the Belgians, Jeroen Cooreman, Director General for Bilateral Affairs, Machteld Fostier, Secretary to the Queen of the Belgians, and Dominque Minior, Ambassador of Belgium to the sultanate.

His Majesty the Sultan and the King of the Belgians also held a closed-door meeting.
